Dinner with the SongsPosted: April 26, 2009
Imagine this, only made of mashed potatoes with little dried seaweed eyes and a tiny carrot beak.
My colleague Zhuang and his lovely wife Naoko had us over for dinner tonight. He is Chinese, she is Japanese and they made us a feast that was as delicious as it was beautiful. We drank fresh coconut milk right out of the coconut, ate handmade dumplings, and slurped up the most delicious homemade cream of pea soup. Maren got the walnut in her dumpling – which will bring her good luck all year. K and L even had customized mashed potato ducks, one with a carrot crown and another with a dainty tiara and tiny eyelashes. We finished the evening with a rousing game of Set and went home with full tummies. It was very nice meal and a very nice evening with very gracious hosts.
