Botball 2009

We went to the regional Botball tournament this afternoon for a fun Saturday outing. Botball is a competition for high school and junior high (maybe even younger) students where they build robots that compete head-to-head without any human remote control. They program the robots using C and they just go. It’s pretty cool. This is the kind of thing that I would totally be into if I were in high school. K was excited about it and told us all about his robot’s design all the way home. Unfortunately, there is not botball organization in Utah, so K won’t be able to do it when we move. Here’s a taste of the excitement. (For background, the emcee just asked one of the competitors if participating in the tournament made her want to pursue a career in math or science. The clip starts as she gave her reply: “Not really.”)

How fun are you guys? I love that you try these new and fun things; your kids will never forget these times. I am sure K loved it!

this kind of outing will ensure your kids’ “geekhood”.

(which, by the way, is the best kind of kid…especially when they are as cute as your kids)
